In the sacred traditions of Nakhon Si Thammarat, Ta Khun Hor is revered as the first spiritual master—the celestial architect who guided the creation of the City Pillar Shrine and served as the supreme teacher of its guardian deities, including Jatukam Ramathep.

The Divine Legacy

The Celestial Sage: Phaya Hora Thep
Ta Khun Hor is no ordinary spirit but a high celestial deity—Phaya Hora Thep, a master of astrology, sacred rituals, and divine timing. He is the guru of Phaya Chingchai and Phaya Sukhum, two other revered guardian spirits, and is considered the supreme authority in the City Pillar tradition. Even Jatukam Ramathep, the mighty protector of the Buddha’s relics, honors Ta Khun Hor as his royal advisor (Rajakru) in all spiritual and ceremonial matters.
The Divine revelation & Sacred Construction
According to Ko Wan Watchakacha, a key disciple of Ta Khun Hor, the master first revealed himself through a spirit medium during the shrine’s early construction. At the same time, another medium channeled Jatukam Ramathep, forging a mystical link between the two divine beings.
In a pivotal moment, Ta Khun Hor instructed that his own statue be carved first—before even the City Pillar itself—from the same sacred golden Takian tree. The tree was to be split into two: one half for his image, the other for the pillar, ensuring their spiritual unity
The Radiant Form of Ta Khun Hor
His statue sits upon a lotus base, holding the Sun-Moon emblem (Suriyan-Chandra)—a symbol of cosmic power over time, nature, and destiny. His radiant aura signifies ultimate wisdom and divine knowledge, marking him as a celestial guide beyond mortal understanding.
The Divine Triad: Vishnu, Brahma, and The Master Architect
Jatukam Ramathep (an avatar of Lord Vishnu/Phra Narai) stands at the top-right gate of the shrine’s main stupa. His two-headed form—Jatukam (below) and Ramathep (above)—holds Vishnu’s sacred weapons: the chakra (discus), trident, and bow.
On the left side stands Phra Phrom (Lord Brahma), the creator.
The third figure, holding tools of craftsmanship, represents Ta Khun Hor himself—the divine architect who designed the shrine’s sacred blueprint.
A Mysterious Disappearance & Prophetic Return
From 1986 to 1995, Ta Khun Hor communicated through a human medium before announcing his departure: "I shall return to the heavens." For 29 years, he remained absent—until 2024, when believers say he returned with a mission.
