Born on 11th November 1912 (B.E. 2455) in Nakhon Pathom, Luang Phor Poon was the sixth of ten children in a humble farming family. Despite his quiet and unassuming nature as a child, few could have foreseen his future as one of Thailand’s most revered monks. Sent to a temple school near his home, the young Poon excelled academically, surpassing his peers in both diligence and intellect. However, due to his family’s poverty, he was forced to leave formal education and work to support his siblings. His innate curiosity led him to study Sacred chanting and scripture writing and Traditional Thai medicine from his grandfather. His exceptional talent and dedication allowed him to master these skills quickly.

On 9th May 1937 (B.E. 2480), the master was ordained as a monk, receiving the Dharma name "Phra Ayutthaya". From the very first day, he devoted himself to:

  • Daily scripture study with unwavering discipline.

  • Deep meditation practice, applying his grandfather’s teachings and temple knowledge.

  • Guidance under Luang Por Ngan, the foremost monk of Nakhon Pathom, who recognized his potential and taught him: Advanced meditation techniques, & Sacred scripture recitation for blessing amulets and crafting holy objects.

Luang Por Ngan advised him that true mastery required forest asceticism. Heeding this, Phra Ayutthaya embarked on solitary practice in mountains and forests, refining his spiritual power.

In 1939 (B.E. 2482), a crisis unfolded at Wat Pailom:

  • The temple had languished without an abbot for years, deemed "unworthy" due to the absence of a monk who had fully purified the six senses.

  • The community, recalling Phra Ayutthaya’s reputation (referred to affectionately as "Papapa"), implored him to lead the temple.

Accepting this divine calling, he became abbot in 1942 (B.E. 2485)—a turning point that transformed Wat Pailom from a neglected site into a thriving center of Dharma.

Through his leadership, the temple gained renown for:

  • Rigorous meditation practices.

  • Sacred amulet blessings (e.g., Takrut Lor).

  • Compassionate teachings that attracted devotees nationwide.

Luang Phor Poon dedicated his life to serving others, earning unwavering trust from devotees across Thailand. Whether resolving personal crises, healing ailments, or offering spiritual guidance, he never turned away a soul—his kindness transcended distance and social status. Under his leadership, Wat Pailom blossomed into a spiritual sanctuary, drawing pilgrims from every corner of the nation.

  • Rejection of Material Attachments: He never touched a single satang of offerings, directing all donations to temple development.

  • Sacred Infrastructure: His influence funded schools, hospitals, and public utilities near Wat Pailom, uplifting entire communities.

  • Unshakable Discipline: Even at 93 years old, he maintained rigorous standards:

    • Demanded daily meditation and temple cleanliness from disciples.

    • Led by example, embodying selflessness in every act—for the nation, the faithful, and the Sangha.

On 28th December 2004 (B.E. 2547), the revered 93-year-old Luang Phor Poon fell gravely ill. Despite medical treatment, his condition—pulmonary edema and heart failure—worsened. By 31st December, Wat Pailom’s annual celebration compelled his disciples to bring him back to the temple, where he remained until 13th January 2005 (B.E. 2548) before being rushed to the ICU. Doctors declared his case hopeless, yet Luang Phor never uttered a word of pain. When his chief disciple, Nam Pong, whispered "Don’t forget your promise!", the master nodded and meditated, miraculously stabilizing long enough to fulfill two final vows:

  • Bless a batch of amulets to raise 350 million baht for a public crematorium, ending the community’s suffering from polluted air.

  • Personally attend the Ten Thousand Buddhas Festival (22nd May).

Against all odds, LP Poon regained consciousness on the 15 May BE2548, astonishing the doctors. Although bedridden, LP Poon consecrated the amulet blessing on the 17 May BE2548. Despite the tormenting by the extensive gastric bleeding, LP Poon remains awake, serene and lucid on the 21 May. The next day (22 May BE 2548), 50 close Thai celebrities and devotees gathered for a final audience with LP and later in the afternoon, the ECG screen showed a flatline heartbeat suggesting that LP Poon had passed on. His face remains radiant and free of pain and suffering.

LP Poon body was enshrined in a royal coffien patronaged by the King Rama IX and was interred at Wat Phai Lom on 24 May BE2548 drawing endless of devotess and mourners who came to pay their respect.
